SpeechSkills is a San Francisco, California–based communication training company, founded by Cara Hale Alter–president and principle trainer. Since 2000, SpeechSkills has provided thousands of workshops throughout the United States and Europe on how to project credibility and confidence, especially in high-stakes conversations.

The SpeechSkills Difference

Our training is always practical, action oriented, and behavior based. We firmly believe that executive presence and communication excellence are not innate talents, but learned skills–skills that anyone can develop. We explicitly define the behaviors required to project credibility and then provide the direct feedback and expert coaching necessary to perform those skills when it matters most.

We know that in today’s highly competitive business environment, time is in short supply. That’s why we require that all of our keynotes, seminars, and workshops provide content-rich information that is immediately applicable. In short, we don’t feel we’ve done our job unless we have an impact on how you do business in the real world.

Our History

While working on her MFA in theatre, Cara Hale Alter became intrigued with how actors could embody traits ranging from authority to approachability simply by shifting subtle behaviors. She became convinced that she could apply these principles to the business world. Her goal was to solve a vital business problem–the divide between being credible and looking credible. By identifying the explicit behavioral cues that influence the perception of credibility, Cara created a step-by-step process to teach business professionals how to project the credibility they deserve.
